Darikwa In Goal Delight

Warriors right back Tendayi Darikwa warmed up to next month’s World Cup qualifiers with another splendid performance scoring a goal for Wigan Athletic in the 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic.

Darikwa has been in terrific form for Wigan Athletic in the opening three matches of the season and on Saturday he capped it all with a goal two minutes from time.

“To score my first goal for the Football Club, with the armband on in front of the away end, it was a special moment,” said Darikwa.

“It’s a great moment for myself to finally get on the scoresheet. It’s been a while since I’ve scored a goal, but the main thing is that it was an important goal for the team.

“It gave us the lead in the game – and to do it in front of the away fans – it was a special moment. Football is everything with supporters in stadiums, and to score my first goal for the football club with the armband on in front of the away end, I’m happy about it.”

Darikwa who was recently appointed the Wigan Athletic captain is in the Warriors squad to play against South Africa on 3 September and Ethiopia a few days later.

Bonne On Target Again

Warriors prospect Macauley Bonne continued with his blistering start to the season with a brace for Ipswich Town in their 2-2 draw against MK Dons in a League One match on Saturday. This is Bonne’s third goal in three matches.

The Zimbabwean opened the scoring sixteen minutes into the match before completing his brace in the second half. Reports say Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic is still interested in the striker for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers as well as the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon in January.

Zemura Frustrated

Warriors left back Jordan Zemura was frustrated after his club Bournemouth surrendered a first half two goal lead to draw 2-2 against Blackpool in a Championship league match on Saturday.

Former Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke scored twice in the first half but Bournemouth went to sleep in the second half allowing Blackpool to level the scoring.

Zemura who put up a commendable performance once again said he is now shifting focus to Tuesday’s EFL Cup second round match against premier league side Norwich City.

“Frustrated to say the least, but another point. Learn a lot from games like those. We move onto Tuesday,” said Zemura.

The 21 year old Zemura received a lot of plaudits from the fans for his performance.
