ZURICH – The FIFA Council has upheld the suspension of Zimbabwe from international football over government interference until all the FIFA demands are met.
The decision was made at the FIFA Congress in Qatar on Thursday with 199 members voting for Zimbabwe’s suspension along with Kenya while only two members voted against.
FIFA still insists the charges against the Felton Kamambo led board are ‘mere allegations’ which lack evidence.
FIFA demanded that the Kamambo and crew be reinstated first and charges against them at the courts be dropped for Zimbabwe to be back into international football.
The Sports and Recreation Commission are on record saying that they will not be be moved by the suspension and will not reinstate the suspended ZIFA board.
Zimbabwe are set to miss out on the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers whose draw is on soon as well as the 2023 CHAN tournament.
