South African coach Gavin Hunt is being touted as the possible next Highlanders coach following the sacking of Mandla Mpofu on Tuesday.
Hunt who won three league titles in a row in the South African premier league with SuperSport United before another title with Bidvest Wits has emerged as one of the prime targets along with former coach Kelvin Kaindu who is in charge of Zanaco in Zambia.
There has been concerns however over Hunt’s asking price which is said to be too much for Highlanders but sources say Highlanders sponsor Sakunda Holdings might be determined to bring in the former Kaizer Chiefs coach so that he can uplift the waning fortunes of the country’s most passionately supported club.
Highlanders are in an unfamiliar 13th position on the log with just three wins in 13 games.
Former coach Kaindu, is the fall back plan should Hunt’s deal fail to materialise. Joel Luphahla who survived the sacking is currently in charge of the team on interim basis.
