Malawi police identify Alinafe Bonongwe’s killers

Two people that were taken into custody by Police in Bangwe on Wednesday in connection to murder of Alinafe Bonongwe in Dedza early this year, have been confirmed to be the ones behind the murder.

Two people that were taken into custody by Police in Bangwe on Wednesday, May 25th, 2022 in connection to murder which happened in Dedza early this year, have been confirmed to be the ones behind the murder of Alinafe Bonongwe.

Bonongwe was until his death the Station Manager of Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) at Dedza border post.

Limbe Police Station through Deputy Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Widson Nhlane, confirmed Wednesday of the arrest of Gerald Maida, 18, and Lydia Kadambo, 49, both from Michongwe village in the area of Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre in connection to the murder in Dedza.

However, the Police did not reveal the actual murderer until today (Thursday) when it has been confirmed by Deputy National Police Spokesperson Harry Namwaza that the two murdered Bonongwe.

Police are currently hunting for other suspects.

According to information from Limbe Police Station yesterday, the teenager revealed everything on how they committed the offence with his accomplices in Dedza district.

Police managed to recover money amounting to K600,000 from Lydia’s house after police detectives raided their houses upon recieving a tip from well-wishers that the two were living a suspicious and extravagant lifestyle.

Alinafe Bonongwe, was murdered on 4th February, 2022 and was laid to rest on 13th February, 2022 at his home village in Nkhotakota.
