Masomere joins ambitious Mutare City Rovers

Outspoken coach Luke 'Vahombe' Masomere has come out of self imposed sabbatical to take charge of Eastern Region Soccer League side Mutare City Rovers.

MUTARE – Outspoken coach Luke ‘Vahombe’ Masomere has come out of self imposed sabbatical to take charge of Eastern Region Soccer League (ERSL) side Mutare City Rovers.

Masomere told the media after being sacked by Manica Diamonds in 2019 that he was taking an indefinite leave from football to concentrate on small scale mining as the sport wasn’t financially rewarding.

The former AmaZulu, Shabanie Mine and How Mine coach who won the Eastern Region Soccer League championship title with Manica in 2018 said he is looking forward to guiding Mutare City Rovers back into the Premier Soccer League.

“The main target of the club is to gain promotion back into the Premier Soccer League and I also share the same vision,” Masomere said.

“I assessed the environment at the club and I’m satisfied that it’s conducive for me to achieve the set target. It’s not my first time being here in Mutare, I’ve been here with Buffaloes and Manica Diamonds. Actually, I call the city my second home and I’m geared towards bringing glory to the city and the club.”

Ironically, Mutare City Rovers were relegated from the Premier Soccer League in 2018 the same year that Masomere guided Manica Diamonds into the top flight league.
