HARARE – Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe has had its chief executive officer, Precious Murena-Nyika stepping down from her role at the local cement manufacturer amid indications she was forced out.

Lafarge board chairperson Kumbirai Katsande confirmed the development which has seen Nyika serving the company for only 18 months.

“After a career spanning 10 years of service, with 18 months spent at the helm of Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe Limited, we announce that Precious Murena is stepping down as CEO of Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe, in order to pursue new interests outside the Holcim Group,” said board chairperson Kumbirai Katsande.

Nyika was appointed chief executive officer in March last year and immediately led massive capital projects at the powerful firm which has become notorious for pushing out its executives over time.

According to Katsande, the company has resolved that chief finance office Amr Elmowafy will be the interim CEO with immediate effect.
