PARIS – Stade de Reims star Marshall Munetsi has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in UberEats French Ligue 1 judging by distance covered at this stage of the competition.
Munetsi is a key player at Reims, having played in all eight of the top-flight French club’s games and scored a goal before the international break.
However, the Zimbabwe international is suspended along with two other team-mates Maxime Busi and Dion Lopy for Reims’ away game against ES Troyes on Sunday afternoon.
According to Ligue 1 stats, Munetsi averages 12km per game and has covered 96.2km which is the second best stat for central and defensive midfielders in the league.
The best runner in this category so far this season is Clermont Foot 63 player Johan Gastien, 34, who averages 12.2 kilometers per game, while 22-year-old Ghanaian Salis Abdul Samed, who plays for RC Lens, averages the same distance like Munetsi but has travelled 95.8 km.
Gastien has covered a total of 97.8 kilometers in the eight games played so far.
Interestingly, nine of the 10 midfielders who have covered the longest distance in Ligue 1 after eight games are defensive midfielders.
Despite the hard work of Marshall Munetsi in the center of the park, Reims are struggling in the French League 1 sitting 17th with six points from eight games and just two above last-placed Ajaccio.
