Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe appoints Matshe new deputy governor

Economist Innocent Matshe was appointed Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) on Thursday, effective October 1 replacing Kupukile Mlambo, whose term ended in June.

HARARE – Economist Innocent Matshe was appointed Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) on Thursday, effective October 1 replacing Kupukile Mlambo, whose term ended in June.

Mlambo stepped down after serving for 10 years at country’s central bank and has since been replaced by an equally experienced Matshe.

RBZ Governor John Mangudya said Matshe brings a “tremendous wealth of experience” to the position.

“He is a highly specialized expert in applied and economic policy analysis and has a particular affinity for micro and macroeconomic linkages and digital finance,” Mangudya said in a statement.

“His expertise will therefore provide great support to the bank in its functional areas of research, administration and IT,” he said.

Matshe previously worked for the African Economic Research Council, consulted for the World Bank, and was a senior researcher at the Human Sciences Research Council of South Africa.

He also headed the economics faculty at the University of Zimbabwe.
