SHANGHAI – A student in Shanghai has been investigated after he allegedly tried to poison his classmate with “Philter” on Sunday.
The student surnamed Yin, 21, from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) put a substance in a female student’s cup while studying in the school library around noon on Sunday.
Yin was taken away by police in the afternoon for an examination, according to a statement released by the university late Sunday evening. The school has set up a special task force to help the police in their investigation.
A statement released Monday by Songjiang district police shows that the substance Yin put in the student’s drink was an effervescent tablet containing taurine, a type of non-essential amino acid that has some antiviral effects. It is uncertain whether the substance can improve sexual desire in women. Physical evidence has been sent for further investigation, according to the statement.
According to media reports, Yin is a junior student at SISU’s School of German Studies and an acquaintance of the student. The substance he put in the student’s drink would be a filter purchased online.
A message circulating online from the student reveals that she walked away from her cup of coffee left in the library at lunch and later discovered that her drink was contaminated with something absurd.
When she checked the surveillance at the security department, she found that Yin had put a substance in her drink. She even found Yin watching her from behind, whether or not she drank the tainted drink. Yin even followed her to the restroom, where she poured the drink down the sink.
Since Yin was her acquaintance, she got scared and reported the incident to the police. Yin remains in detention since Monday.
The student said that she underwent a physical examination at the hospital, and although the results came back normal, she was severely traumatized by the incident, that the substance Yin put in her drink actually l aphrodisiac effect or not.
Since Yin tried to drug her, the student vows to investigate the incident and ensure that Yin is held criminally or civilly responsible for any damages.
