WUHAN — The administration of navigational affairs on the Yangtze River has said more than 780,000 transportation ships from the 11 provincial-level regions along the Yangtze River Economic Belt used shore power of more than 74.9 million kWh in 2022.
According to the information by the office which falls under the Ministry of Transport, both the number of vessels and the shore power usage reached a record high.
More and more transportation ships are being urged to use shore electricity while at the dock as a significant step to improve the protection of the Yangtze River’s ecosystems and promote environmentally responsible shipping.
More than 10,000 transportation vessels have undergone upgrades to implement common power-receiving technology linked to the shore power infrastructure.
According to the government, the traffic and transport authorities intend to speed up the modernization of shore power facilities at ports and abroad and to further encourage the development and use of smart shore power in 2023.
Early in 2016, China launched the Yangtze River Economic Belt programme with the goal of transforming the region into a “golden economic belt” with improved transportation, coordinated economic growth, market integration, and beautiful ecosystems.
