CAPE TOWN – The Zimbabwe netball team, who had battled gallantly after missing their first match at the Africa Netball Cup to come within touching distance of a podium finish, came unstuck against Malawi on Tuesday afternoon.

The Zimbabwe Gems, led by a one-man technical bench owing to financial constraints, fell 71-46 to Malawi to surrender their hopes of a third place finish.

The side, who are playing with no allowances, had dug deep to find a way back into the Africa Netball Cup, beating Lesotho 79-22 and 68-35 Kenya at the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town.

Their campaign had got off to the worst possible start after being docked two points for failing to show up for their opening match against Uganda on Friday night.
