Afro Pop sensation Takura, known for his hit track "Handiroore," has stunned fans with the unexpected announcement of his retirement from the music industry.

HARARE – Afro Pop sensation Takura, known for his hit track “Handiroore,” has stunned fans with the unexpected announcement of his retirement from the music industry.

The star took to his social media platforms to share the shocking news.

In his heartfelt message to fans, he expressed his mixed feelings about this decision, saying, “If you know me, then you know how heart-breaking this is for me to do, but I think it’s time I hang up the boots. It’s been a great ride, and I am grateful for each and every one of you who was rooting for me.”

While not revealing all the reasons behind this decision, Takura, real name, Takura Tendayi, emphasized the importance of continuously supporting loved ones and conveyed his love to his fans.

This sudden announcement left his fan base heartbroken and led to calls for him to reconsider his retirement, as they believed he still had much to offer the music industry.

In a touching social media post, fellow musician Holy Ten, who collaborated with Takura on the song “Cut Them Off,” appealed to the singer to reconsider his retirement.

He acknowledged the suspicion of publicity stunts in the music industry but expressed a strong desire for Takura to continue making music, highlighting his significant influence on the genre.

Takura, originally from Bulawayo, began his music journey by forming the group Soul Afrika in 2013 with his best friend Donald Mapholisa in Gweru.

Later, he moved to Harare and joined forces with Adrian Tate. The group eventually disbanded to pursue solo careers, and Takura’s solo career flourished.

His songs, such as “Zino Irema” and “MaObama,” catapulted him to fame. His debut EP “Stripped” was released in 2016, followed by an album titled “Someone Had to Do It” in 2018.

Takura’s talent and dedication have not gone unnoticed in the industry.

He received multiple awards, including two at the Midlands Music Awards in September 2016, recognizing his hit single “Zino Irema” as the “Best Single” and “Best Video.”

He has also been honored with several Zim Hip Hop Awards during his career.
