Zimbabwe telecom operators increase tariffs

Telecom operators have been given the nod by Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) to increase out of bundle tariffs by an average of 30 percent.

HARARE – Telecom operators have been given the nod by Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) to increase out of bundle tariffs by an average of 30 percent.

The move comes at a time when the telecoms industry in Zimbabwe battles rising input costs which has made operation difficult.

State-owned mobile network operator, NetOne became the first to implement the tariffs price adjustment on Sunday.

According to the latest price schedule released by NetOne, a 10 gigabyte (GB) will now cost Z$2 500, up from Z$2 000, while 25 gigabyte data (GB) will be going for Z$4 250, up from Z$3 500. 

The mobile operator also adjusted its 50 gigabyte data price from Z$5 000 to Z$6 250.

Mobile giant Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, Telecel Zimbabwe and TelOne announced they will effect price adjustment this Wednesday.

Econet Wireless adjusted its voice bundles from Z$0,1070 per second to Z$0,1668. Short Message Services (SMS) tariffs have been adjusted from Z$1,64 to Z$2,05.

Econet data bundles will now be going for Z$1,58 per megabyte from the initial price of Z$1,26 per megabyte.

TelOne, the country’s fixed telecommunications operator review its voice tariffs for landline-to-landline calls to Z$6,34 per minute for local calls.

The new price for landline-to-mobile tariffs will be Z$7,38 per minute, while TelOne’s popular 10 gigabyte (GB) residential broadband bundle will now cost Z$1 499 from the previous Z$1 082.

The operator also adjusted price for 20 gigabyte (GB) data bundle from Z$1 948 to Z$2 698.
