BULAWAYO – Vice President Constantino Chiwenga delivered a keynote address at the ZITF Mine Entra 2025 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on Thursday 9th October 2025 speaking against unsustainable extraction.
VP Chiwenga, who was the Acting President in the absence of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, warned miners against abusing their mandate by exploiting resources for personal gains.
“To the miners, you are the custodians of our mineral wealth. Handle it with integrity. Exploit it responsibly. Protect it as a national trust, not a personal gain,” he said.
VP Chiwenga who is on record lately preaching against corruption reiterated the same message as he officially opened the 28th edition of the Mining, Engineering and Transport (Mine Entra) Expo.
“Corruption, illicit trading and leakages are cancers that erode public trust, distort markets and deprive citizens of their rightful benefits,” the former army general said.

VP Chiwenga calls for tight mining regulations
The Acting President further disclosed that the government of Zimbabwe will tighten compliance systems to ensure transparency across mining value chain.
“We are challenging all responsible authorities and agencies to put in place mechanisms that enhance transparency in licensing, monitoring and enforcement,” said VP Chiwenga.
He also urged players in the Mine Entra sector to adopt sustainable practices to protect the environment while ensuring citizens and future generations benefit from their natural resources.
“The expansion of our mining industry must not come at the expense of our environment and communities,” said VP Chiwenga while emphasizing Zimbabwe is not open for extraction.
He called on miners to extract resources responsibly for public benefit instead of personal gain while bearing in mind future generations.
Earlier, the Acting President Chiwenga toured exhibition stands at the ZITF Hall where he engaged exhibitors and witnessed innovations shaping Zimbabwe’s mining landscape.
A number of companies exhibited their products among them Hwange Colliery, Econet Wireless, Innov X Africa, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, Powerdrive Engineering and Nashua Zimbabwe.
The conference for Mine Entra 2025 ran under the theme “Beyond Extraction: Sustaining the Future of Mining” and was organized by the Ministry of Mines in partnership with the Chamber of Mines Zimbabwe.
