JILIN – China’s national health authorities reported two Covid-19 deaths on Saturday.
It is the first recorded rise in the death toll since January last year as the country battles an omicron-induced surge.
The deaths, both in the northeastern province of Jilin, bring the country’s coronavirus death toll to 4,638.
China reported 2,157 new community transmission on Saturday, most of them in Jilin.
The province has imposed a travel ban, which requires people to obtain permits from the police to cross borders.
