HARARE — Former Juventus midfielder Ivano Bonetti is one of the foreign coaches who have expressed interest in the vacant Warriors coaching job.

The Warriors coaching post fell vacant following the expiry of Norman Mapeza‘s short contract after Zimbabwe’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.

With ZIFA expected to advertise the job, a number of foreign coaches have already expressed their interest in coaching Zimbabwe.

Bonetti hasn’t had much success in coaching, having taken charge of Dundee and Rangers in Scotland between 2001 and 2002.

He had a spell as director of football at Italian lower league side Pescina Valle del Giovenco between 2004 and 2010.

In August 2020, Bonetti joined Italian fourth tier side Rimmi as head youth coach.

Another Italian Claudio Bozzini is interested in becoming the Warriors goalkeepers’ coach.

German Dietmar Hirsch who is currently coaching Teutonia 05 in the fourth tier of German football is also interested in the Warriors job along with his compatriots Jan-Philipp Rose and Stefan Boeger.

Croatian Zdravko Logarusic was the last expatriate to take charge of the Warriors but was sacked in September last year after a string of poor results.

The issue of a foreign coach has torched debate in Zimbabwe with some saying they are not good enough and don’t understand the local football terrain while others feel that local coaches are not well equipped and get exposed at international tournaments like the Africa Cup of Nations.
