JOHANNESBURG – Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Sello Malema has given Education minister Angie Motshekga seven days to close schools in the wake of a third wave COVID-19 in South Africa.
Malema threatened to take it upon himself and enact the idea provided the minister does not heed to his demands within the stated time.
“Now all of you seating here if you have got kids, we talks as parents. There is no single one of us who didn’t have a child returned from school because one of them tested positive now at this level three.
“I have got three year old and four year old. Twice they have been returned back two weeks because one child tested positive.
“I have got a fourteen year old grade nine. Now for the second time being turned back because one of their own tested positive. Not the parents, the kids! It is now clear it’s attacking kids now.

“Where is the minister of education? Who heard from the minister of education? What type of government is this? If minister of education is sick like they are alleging that she is sick, she is got cancer, why are we not being told so that we are not hard on her.
“What does it cost her if the country she is serving as a minister gets to be told that she is sick. She will be more sick by us being told that she is sick? She is our minister, we must be told where is the minister of education.
“Results were announced in this country, the minister was not there. They said she got covid, they didn’t take the country into confidence. Now the latest is that she is got cancer. She is our minister, our children are testing positive, our children are going to die, where is the minister of education.
“If this rumours are true, the President owes it to the nation because he calls half the time so-called family meetings that are useless which he can just type a Whatsapp text into a family group and tell us what is the latest.
“He says nothing, he doesn’t tell us where is our minister,” charged Malema.
The red beret movement Commander-In-Chief said schools must be closed with immediate effect.
“Schools must be closed with immediate effect because our children are going to died. We give minister seven days to close schools. Failure to do so, we will have to close schools ourselves as EFF because we are not going to allow our children to die. We are not going to allow that,” he said.
