Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s ex-wife, Marry Mubaiwa, who was found guilty on Wednesday of violating the Marriage Code after she lied that her ex-husband agreed to formalise their marriage while receiving treatment in India, has been sentenced to one year in prison.
However, Mubaiwa escaped imprisonment after Harare magistrate Lazini Ncube ruled that she was not in good health to go to jail.
Ncube accorded the former model the option to pay Z$60,000 or serve a jail sentence of six months.
Mubaiwa, who is not feeling well but took the time to attend the sentencing hearing before Ncube, will not serve jail time after being sentenced to a year in jail with reprieve.
“The accused will not cause harm to society. She deserves a second chance. Community service for her won’t work because of her health,” said the magistrate.
