Strive Masiyiwa is now the richest black man in Southern Africa, with a net worth surpassing $4.4 billion – dethroning Patrice Motsepe from the position, according to latest information.
Masiyiwa’s new stock builds on year-to-date gains in shares of his telecommunications company Econet Wireless Zimbabwe and smart technology company Cassava Smartech.
According to the latest information, Masiyiwa’s net worth increased from US$2.7 billion to US$4.4 billion.
Forbes, which has another list, still has Masiyiwa behind Motsepe, but both men have seen their fortunes skyrocket since the start of the year, with Motsepe topping the list since 2008.
Masiyiwa, 61, recently announced his resignation as chairman and director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited but still retains his over 50% stake in the company, which he listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange in 1998.
