Zimbabwe’s deputy minister of Defence Victor Matemadanda says the intelligence services have unearthed a plot to spread coronavirus through teargas cannisters at an anti-government protest slated for July 31.
The bizarre claims were made at a Press conference at the ruling party’s headquarters in Harare where he said the protestors were being funded by external forces.
Matemadanda said:
“We know they (opposition) have been given more than US$300,000 to sustain the demonstration but obviously they are being encouraged to break the law against Covid-19. They think that there is going to be firing of teargas and we are reliably informed that they also have some cannisters containing Covid-19 active material.
“They hope to spread Covid to the Zimbabweans. We are reliably informed that they have a mechanism of spreading coronavirus which has been brought in by those who are funding this.”
