VICTORIA – The Sawanga Mall construction project in Victoria Falls is progressing swiftly and smoothly according to a well respected Financial Engineer in Zimbabwe.

The engineer, Francis Chinjekure who took time to visit the site for assessment of the project this week gave feedback on the project saying all was moving at a fast pace and no errors have been noted thus far.

The Sawanga Mall is expected to be complete by January 2019 and will be a noble feature for the resort town of Victoria Falls as Zimbabwe also aims to improve the tourism infrastructure to be able to attract a large chunk of tourists into the ‘teapot shaped’ nation.

Zimbabwe has suffered bad publicity for the past 18 years and the current Mnangagwa-led administration is making frantic efforts to turn around the sector and also boost the economy in the process.

Chinjekure said construction at the site is now at an approximate 30% and is on schedule with multi-purpose features expected to spice up the project.

“[I] had an opportunity to tour the construction site of the Sawanga Mall in Victoria Falls. Construction in progress (APPROX 30%) and on schedule, expected completion – January 2019 and there will be partial trading for the festive season,” he said.

“The mall will have more than 5,000 square metres of retail space comprising 24 shops with TM/Pick n Pay as anchor tenant. Estimated total cost is $13.5 million financed from disposal of ZIMRE Centre Harare (sold for $10,8m),” the financial analyst added.

Meanwhile it is exactly 5 days before Zimbabwe holds its eagerly awaited 2018 General Elections in which it will be a tussle challenge between new birds in current President Emmerson Mnangagwa and vibrant young opposition leader Nelson Chamisa of the MDC Alliance.

Mnangagwa will be looking to use the Sawanga Mall project to at least charm voters to his side but according to analysts assessments he faces a stiff challenger in Chamisa.
