GUANGZHOU – Appreciate Africa Network (ANN) held the 8th Edition of Pride of Africa Asia Pacific Awards ceremony on Friday 29th July 2022.
The ceremony was delivered in a hybrid form to ensure no one missed out online and offline in the famous capital and the largest city in Guangdong province which is home to Asia’s largest African population known as Guangzhou.
Pride of Africa Asia Pacific Awards are awards that are annually organized by Appreciate Africa Network which was launched in Beijing China in 2013 by Zimbabwean native Dr. Samantha Sibanda.
These Awards recognize and appreciate the work of individuals and teams of people who have made a significant impact in Asia Pacific through their commitment and dedication which has proven them to be outstanding and/or are championing different projects that raise African flags high.
This year’s Pride of Africa Asia Pacific awards had 84 nominees in over 25 categories from 25 different African countries.
The awards made sure to celebrate excelling Africans in Asia Pacific from different walks and works of life from youth, sports, health, academics, entertainment, among others.
Appreciate Africa Network did not leave friends of Africa behind and honoured them just like what the African spirit of Ubuntu upholds.
The event was graced by the presence of Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to China; His Excellency Dr. Martin Chedondo, Botswana’s Charge d’affaires Ms Nomsa Daphne Mlotshwa along with officials from Botswana’s embassy in Beijing, Dean of all African consulates in Guangzhou Mr Kouame Konan, Tanzania’s Consulate General in Guangzhou Mr. Khatibu Makenga along with officials from his office, Deputy Consulate General of Angola, Protocol Officer of Congo Consulate and officials from Uganda’s Consulate.
The event was officially commenced by a keynote speech from His Excellency Martin Chedondo who emphasized on the importance of significantly contributing to the African Excellence in order to help shape the future of Africa.
The ceremony was filled with joys of celebration, entertainment in the form of singing and dancing and most importantly African brilliance at the Soluxe Hotel in Guangzhou.
The event marked its end with the founder of Appreciate Africa Network Dr. Samantha Sibanda delivering her vote of thanks to all attendees and a prime reminder to continue making Africa proud!
